Day 13 - Dec 13

Today we head out to the Pediatricians again for Shane's weight check.
He's now a 8 lb, 5 oz. That's way past his birth weight or 7 lb 12 oz, and a whooping 1 lb 1 oz weight gain in the last 1 week. At least I know we're now doing something right with his massive initial weight loss.

So we learnt something this week.
Greenish bits (that looked like broccoli) in the poop meant that baby Shane had an imbalance of fore milk and hind milk (Too much of the fore milk). When i pumped out 30-40 seconds of the fore milk, then fed him, poop went back tonormal colour.

Day 12 - Dec 12

Another night of decent sleep. It was not as much as last night, but I would say 5-6 hours is pretty good!

Day 11 - Dec 11

We had a great run last night. Shane woke up only 3 times for his feed. Meaning, I got to sleep at least 6 hours last night! Woo hoo!

Baby had his first nail clipping today. He was born with really long fingernails and had been scratching his face.

Snow stopped yesterday, and we took Baby Shane for a walk (yes it's still sub-zero deg C temperature). The bugaboo got its maiden journey… to South Street and back home.

Day 10 - Dec 10

We thought we had gotten into a routine. There is no routine for babies. Everyday they do something new, something different… It's amazing.

Shane made his claim to our bed. A picture speaks a thousand words…

Spot the baby & the Pee Pee stain

Today, we also finally managed to spot his pooping cue. Shane stops doing whatever he does, stiffens up, stretches his arms and legs… and when business is complete, he relaxes all his muscles.

Day 9 - Dec 9

It was a long night. Shane was up from 2am crying, peeing and pooping… and we did not catch a wink of sleep till 8am.

Another one just for laughs…

Day 6 - Dec 6

1 Week milestone!

A tough first night home. We're trying to adjust with having a baby at home, and he's trying to adjust into a whole new world…

Along the way, we realized we were not as well equipped. Thankfully there's Amazon Prime delivery. 2 days and my shipment will be here. Though i very much would rather to have it immediately.

We took Shane to Center City Pediatrics to see Dr Berger. He weighed in at 7 lb 5 oz. Still not quite back to his birth weight, but he's almost there. He did his first poop on the nurses at the clinic. Well done.

Day 7 - Dec 7

Today I'm attempting a recording of what we did throughout the day. Is this going to be the routine? Seems like all babies do is eat, sleep, pee, poop….  for now at least.

Baby Shane is almost a week old! So here is what we did today on Day 6.

00:00 Shane is with dad on our bed whilst mum sleeps. Dad works away on his school work and studying for his exams.

00:15 Mum wakes up from sleep to feed. Efficient feeding tonight. Shane latches on for a whole 10 mins on each side without stopping! Hoo rah for his efforts! He's like a little chipmunk - storing milk in his mouth is his favourite past time. Only difference is... He bubbles them out slowly when dad and mum are not watching

00:45 Dad swaddles little Shane and places him in his cot. Sometime later (whilst we all were sleeping), baby Shane breaks loose!!

01:20 Mum hears baby struggling and soft weeping (not a loud cry YET). Baby Shane gets picked up and heads to bed on mama this time. Mum decides not to sleep cos next feeding is up in another half hour. Baby Shane sleeps nicely!

02:15 Baby Shane is woken up from his sleep for his feed. This time, he latched himself on for a continuous stretch of 18 mins!! Biggest record in his 6 days of life...

02:45 Mum hears a loud fart. Uh oh. Time for diaper change. Dad wakes up for his diaper duty. It was just pee... And a lot of pee. After cleaning him up, and whilst putting a new diaper on, Shane decided to spray!! But he sprayed onto himself and the changing table. Lol. Dad & Mum are both nice and clean! lol. It took us another 10 mins to clean up his mess... Finally put him back into his cot at 3:00

03:45 Mum wakes up to hear little Shane shivering. Dad wakes up to warm baby Shane up with his body heat…

04:15 It's time for Baby Shane's next feed. He clearly is enjoying time with the daddy, and not hungry. Since mummy can't seem to wake him up to feed, baby Shane ended up sleeping on mum again. It's been 3 hours since his last 18 mins marathon feed!

05:10 Shane is still sleeping and shows no signs of any intention to feed. Then mama caught him sticking his tongue out! Yay! Time for next feed! (Can't believe mum was this excited for the next feed - but more because she wants to go to sleep after feeding time!). This time, Shane had about 10 mins worth of milk… Fingers crossed, it'll last at least an hour if not more.

05:30 He pooped and peed. Diaper changing time before heading to bed!! No dramas! So much for a nice sleep….

05:50 It's not even an hour since the last makan session!! We guess… What goes out must be replenished. Shane fed for another 15 mins before falling asleep on the boppy pillow, but woke up when we put him into the cot. Meanwhile, mum and pups goes back to dreamland.

07:45 The 2 hour sleep felt like eternity! Shane was awake the whole 2 hours (or so we think). He likes to stare at our wall and the diaper changing table, and swinging his arms in the air. He was definitely ready for his 745am feed when my alarm rang (thankfully before he started crying). He had his regular 20 mins feed again

08:20 Diaper changing time again!! This time it was only a pee diaper. Thankfully the urea crystals are gone from his pee! Hoorah… a milestone for us!

09:30 Dad & Mum preps to take Shane out to Penn Hospital for his Bilirubin test (it's the test for Jaundice). We had to dress Shane in thick layers as the weather was about 38 degF (3 deg C), strap him in the car seat and prepare a diaper bag. So many items for the little man.

10:30 The Lims arrive at Penn hospital which is about 5 mins from where we live.

10:45 Saw the lab technician who drew 1ml of blood. It took about 1.5 mins but felt like eternity when Shane started screaming.

11:00 Dad decided to walk one block down to give Shane some sunlight before heading home. It's freezing outside though!

12:15 After long and hard screams at the hospital, he got tired and needed another feed. It's been a while since he had some milk anyway. This feeding lasted another 30 minutes

13:30 Screaming in the bassinet... Shane peed and pooped - big time.

14:00 Hospital phones with the results for Shane's Bilirubin test. His bili test results went up from 12.5 to 12.9. The normal range should be from 0-12. But since he's been feeding well, and peeing & pooping well, he didn't have to be admitted to do his sun bath. (I never knew that you could get rid off jaundice through pee and poo).

14:15 Shane is fed his daily Vitamin D dosages.

14:20 Feeding time again since we spotted his lips smacking and tongue sticking out. It was only a 15 mins feed.

14:40 We needed to give Shane some sunlight to get rid of the Jaundice. Dad and Shane hang out on the bed where the small bits of sunlight falls. Mum falls asleep for the next 2 hours... A much needed sleep!

16:00 Shane peed and pooped. Daddy had to clean him up by himself. It was just a little poo and a lot of pee. Just as daddy was done cleaning, Shane peed again... This time, he sprayed into his own mouth and the back of the changing table. Clearly screams were heard and a frantic dad awakes mum. Total number of diapers used in this episode = 3.

16:20 Just 2 mins after we cleaned up, Shane decided to do a big fat poo poo. Another diaper change again!!

16:35 Another 20 -25 minutes feed after the big poo

16:45 Shane is shivering from the cold air . So he sleeps on mum this time while dad is working on his Consulting project. After 2 hours, The little prince is still sleeping!

18:00 Shane has his next feed... But was a short one cos mum woke the little boy from his sleep

19:00 Diaper change! Way too much pee in the diaper. Even the Christmas tree lights could not distract him

20:05 Baby Shane wakes up from his nap all wet. Thought he was hungry until dad carried him. We tried using Huggies diapers for the first time.... Urgh, what a mistake!! It leaks....

20:15 Time for a feed!! This feed was a long half hour meal...

21:00 Another poo and pee?!! How efficient is his body. Just as we were done cleaning, Shane decided to surprise us with another poo- this time on the changing table. The next 30 mins was spent cleaning the table, changing diapers, re-dressing him out of his poopy shirt... Oh what fun.

21:30 After a poop, it's meal time again! Another 20 mins feed. By this time, mum is exhausted.... But can't take a nap because there's random things to do like clear the dirty stuff on the floor, sterilize items...

23:30 Baby's last 20 mins feed for the day

23:50 Baby's last  diaper change for today.

Tomorrow… hopefully repeats itself. Today was considered the best day (out of the last 6 days). We can only tell ourselves… it only gets better, and enjoy Shane while he's still little.

Day 5 - Dec 5

We have been in the hospital for 5 long days (7 for me!!), and it's time to head home. Quite excited bringing the little man home.

Photo of the day…

The little man loves stretching...

When we got home, he kept staring at our purple wall in the bedroom. New environment. Hello Home.

Day 4 - Dec 4

So Shane has got a Bilirubin level of 12.5 (anything above 12 would be require sun tanning). But the doctor said we could wait till Saturday (in about 3 days) to see if his bili levels would drop. Fingers crossed.

Shane has got pretty cool hiccups. Check this video out.

Urea Crystals in Pee

We had the first fright of our lives when we first saw red stuff in the pee on Day 3.

(Sorry for graphic image) It's that red bit on the top of the diaper. Someone should actually write a book on "It's OK for your baby". Whoever thought having red pee was normal? So we panicked and paged for the doctors who said it's fine - it's just dehydration.

Day 3 - Dec 3

Shane was starved. He lost 12% of his birth weight (we were told 7% was max before it became a concern). We felt terrible that he's lost that much weight - again there was no milk!!!

Finally by the morning, the milk the arrive. The cow is working today!
The nurses also brought her secret weapon out - the nipple shield. Why couldn't she have brought this out earlier?!? It made feeding a whole lot easier.

Day 2 - Dec 2

Milk!! why is there no milk. Why is it taking such a long time to come!! The baby is screaming at the top of his lungs…. And no we don't want to formula feed him yet…

Pretty stressful time...

Daddy's little boy...

Bean Sprouts - My Delivery Story

This is my personal experience at Pennsylvania Hospital… (and what I remember of the events that happened 6 days ago). Views and opinions may differ based on the doctor and nursing staff.

So w checked into the hospital PETU (pre evaluation treatment unit?? I'm just guessing) at about 10pm in the evening. The process was fairly painless since I had sent my admissions forms previously. I was ushered to bed 5A (yup it's a shared room). It felt like a campus dormitory - tight and squeezy. So a doctor came in to double check if my water bag did or did not break. Eventually after both the pH paper test, and the microscopic fern test, the doctors concluded my water bags were not broken. BUT!!! They would keep me because the baby had 2 decelerations which is a sufficient cause for concern.

If we had decided to leave, we would have to sign an "Against Medical Advice" form. I guess the Singaporean-ness in us made us stay, and also that we did not know what would happen to bean baby if we chose to leave. There were so many possibilities for this deceleration which can't really be determined - could be a 'tired' placenta, cord around his neck, etc. After all the doctors said worse case scenario was a still birth. Come on, if they scare you with shit like that, mentally, you would stay.

So by 11pm, we were moved to the L&D area. We were given all our options and procedures for inducing labour. So step 1 was to insert a prostaglandin pill. This pill is placed somewhere inside and helps ripen the cervix. So I started from a 0cm,10%,-3 (which means I'm 0cm dilated, 10%thinning of the cervix, baby not dropped - ranges from -3 to +3, where 0 means baby is at the cervix.) from the time we were procrastination about the whole inducing bit to the time they started the induction process at 4am, I had dilated 1cm. That's a good start.

The doctor returned to check later at 8am in the morning to see how well the pill had worked. I had progressed reasonably well by then : 2cm, 50%, -2. Yay to the thinning cervix and dropping baby!

But from 8am till 2pm, I had stopped making progress and then the docs recommended that the next step is to start pitocin (oxytocin). I started the Pitocin drug at 3pm. Pitocin meant that we were almost definitely going to need an epidural. Anyway, if we had to have an epi, we'll have an epi (though I would much preferred a no epi birth). After they started the pitocin at 2ml (which got cranked up to 4ml, 6ml, up to 20ml) contractions started coming. Dreaded.

Then at 9pm, my waters broke (yes on it's own). Just like what you see in the movies... A whole gush of waters flowed out. And it just wouldn't stopped. At first I thought I just couldn't control my pee any longer because of the pitocin, then I looked and saw clear liquids which was clearly not pee! So from then, the contractions only could have gone a lot stronger and more intense.
Bouncing on the birthing ball (gym ball) - maybe that's why my waters broke??

2 hours after my waters broke, I couldn't take the pain of the contractions that were coming every 2-3 minutes. There was no 'pain build up' like traditional delivery, it was more like from little or no pain, to a stabbing pain (not that I ever stabbed myself before - but I imagine it will feel just like that). It was a lot more excruciating as compared to before. So considering that I potentially could be in pain for another 12-14 hours multiplied by 2 mins intervals, I thought Epi was a more logical sense - Who wants to be stabbed more than 350 times? And who knows if I would still have energy at the end to push?

But we did have a few concerns regarding epidurals - one of which was the high chance that epi wouldn't work on one side of the body. We have had 2 friends who had partial epi and they said it hurt like hell. One of them had been re-poked (3 times) and still ended up in a C section - for reasons which I didn't ask. The other had a natural delivery but experienced perhaps unnecessary pain. Other concerns were more textbook issues which we had received education from an anesthesiologist friend, VK, a while back. Anyhow the anesthesiologist at Penn hospital assured me this was uncommon and only about 5% of his patients had experienced that.

Taking the epi is like a prick in the back. The needle and tube is really thin, so the whole process was fairly painless. So for the first 1 hour, the epi did such a wonderful job. I couldn't feel a thing! But this meant that I had to be bed ridden - with a bed pan too! So through the night (ok it was for a few hours - approx 3-4 hrs) I had an awesome sleep.

Another 20 minutes into receiving the epidural, a nurse came in to 'check' on me since she saw something amiss on the monitor Apparently fetal distress. She paged other nurses, and suddenly there were about 3 nurses and 2 doctors in the room doing multiple things, which I can't exactly remember. Apparently, Pitocin could cause contractions that are too close which does not give the uterus or the baby (something like that) time to recover and so baby goes into distress. So eventually, they stopped the drug, and jabbed me with something to stop the contractions to allow the bean to 'recover' i guess...

At that same time, the right side of my body started feeling the pains of the contractions! In my mind, I was silently swearing at the doctor - at least I am going to contribute to his statistics of rate of failed epis. I endured the pain for about 3 hours then I decided to call the doc in. He said I had 3 options (urgh, I hate options) :
1. Increase dosage of drug
2. Adjust the existing insertion
3. Re-do the entire process
We started with 1. It didn't work for more than an hour. Then decided to get a new poke in the spine. Why? Because I wasn't convinced that adjusting the current insertion would be of use, and I need the pain control!
So this time... It worked - way too well on the left leg. I was pretty much paralysed on the left but managable on the right. But because they had to insert the tube at a higher location than original, the numbing sensation was all the way up to my boobies. Anyhow, it worked, I'm happy, he's (doc) is happy - though I'm pretty sure he did crank up the dosage big time.

By morning 7am I had dilated till 6cm, 80% and baby was at -1. Almost there but still not quite there yet. At least I'm considered in active labour. BUT... I was also starting to develop a fever... The doctors think it's infection from the breaking of the waters. We think it's due to all those hand vaginal exams done by so many doctors. I must have had at least 7-8 different doctors shove their hands in there (ok too much info). The temperature started to rise above 100, and within 2 hours, it was at 102.8 degF (which is supposed to be high - i'm not sure?! - but was told anything above 100.4 is a problem.)

So the doctors came in and said that the bean needed antibiotics because of the fever and be observed in NICU (neonatal ICU) for a few hours after birth. (Did not make a difference if he were to come naturally or via C section). So what happened to all those skin to skin missed hours etc?! We have heard so much about it during antenatal class, and looked forward to that. But well, if that is what it takes to keep him alive…. FINE.

Again, I was given 2 options *eyes rolling*
1. Go for a C-Section to minimize further infection
2. Go natural, but may have to end up in a C-Section if I hadn't dilated sufficiently and delivered in the next 6 hours.

Initially we decided on option 1 - immediate C-Section. Surprisingly, the doctor in the hospital that day told us maybe we could observe to see how I progress after an hour or two. (I think they were waiting for the liquids to clear out of my stomach - my guess only). After the next 2 hours passed, I still measured exactly the same. Clearly not progressing at all, and then it was clear Option 1 became the only option.

That whole birth experience…. lasted 36.5 hours. It's like going through almost every possibility of things that could go wrong during birth. Fortunately not the C-Section though!

Waiting to go into the operating room

So… within 15 minutes, I was rolled into the Operating Room. There must have been about 10+ people in there, including this anesthesiologist who kept talking to me… (I hadn't drunk water, so felt really embarrassed with my bad breath - only later to realize they all had those surgery mask). The baby came out pretty quick (felt like it was only a mere 5 minutes, but the sewing up process took a whole lot longer. I could feel presses and tugging of my tummy. Didn't feel like an operation, but felt more like someone giving you a front belly massage.

After the bean arrived, he was weighed, and cleaned, and wheeled off to NICU. At least I got to give him a little kiss before he left.

Our first family photo...

And now, our journey as 3 begins…

Day 1 - Dec 1

Oh, now it's so real… We're at the recovery room waiting to be transferred to the postpartum room.
Excited to see Shane back in the room after he gets his transfer out of NICU.

Today marks the beginning of Project 365. We were told that babies grow so fast and do so many amazing things in their first year of life… so I will attempt to do a daily ramble of Shane's first year of a blog entry or just a photo.

We have so many photos of day 1, this is still the favorite photo of the day - our first family photo.

Had our first real life learning session on how to breastfeed and what to expect in the coming days and months.

An Introduction

Hello World.
World meet Shane.
Shane meets world.

Shane Weisheng Lim (林伟胜)

Date - 1 December 2013
Time - 1:48pm
Weight - 7 lb 12 oz
Length - 52.5cm
Place of Birth - Pennsylvania Hospital

Braxton Hicks

A never knew what having Braxton hicks felt like. Duh... Never been pregnant.

Googling doesn't really tell you where and what exactly that feels like. All I read were forums where experienced mums shared their thoughts. They could have been mistaken too!!

So... After staying in the PETU and the L&D room for the last 36 hours, we learnt a lot from the nurses. What we thought was baby kicks (those massive movements), we found out those were Braxton hicks contractions. This means I've been counting wrong fetal movements?! I guess so!!

Final doc visit before the bean

So the leak was getting bad and I'm not sure if the waters really broke. In the afternoon, we went to PennMedicine to see Dr Rita Borromeo. She said it was best to go to the hospital after testing with the pH paper (it turned blue - meaning it could be the Amniotic fluid).

So that evening, we celebrated Mum's birthday a day early at Pumpkin on South Street... And prayed for her grandson to be born on her birthday. What an awesome gift that would be.

happy birthday mum and soon to be grandma

Later we proceeded to the hospital!! See next post on the hospital experience!

Week 39

Thursday 28 Nov was the thanksgiving holiday. I felt a small trickle of water. Not sure if the waters broke or not. It (the leak feel) was intermittent and not continuous. I figured that I had an appointment at PennMedicine on Black Friday anyway, so we decided to wait it out...

Meanwhile, we did make it to the Philly thanksgiving parade in the -2deg C weather. Never been to one... So it was an experience for us!

Loving the parade floats!!

D

Also, I managed to cook for our little 3-man thanksgiving dinner... Asian style stuffed roast chicken. Turkey was just way too large!!

Glad that I didn't have to spend this day in the hospital... Plus I managed to set up the X'mas tree.... Hoo rah!!!!!

And we also did get to check out the Black Friday sale after dinner.

Car seat from the granny!

We have been blessed by another freebie from the granny (Z's mum).

Just got the seat out of the box and now and playing around with this...

The Bean Squirms

Bean is always camera shy. He wriggles and squirms a lot usually. But whenever the phone camera is whipped out… he knows it, and stops! Then when I get tired of waiting for him to move again, he goes at it again. It's tough to get a shot.

BUT… I did manage to capture a video whilst at the bookstore. It's a short one… But better short than none!

Week 38 and a non-stress test for the bean

Usual stuff… Went in to see Dr Renbaum for the weekly checks in the midst of my Greenbuild Conference (so glad that Greenbuild was held in Philadelphia this year, and the doc was located a 10 mins walk from the convention centre).

She asked  if the bean was moving as much. Well, he wasn't exactly moving all that much as compared to a few weeks back. I read on google that it was because he's out of space and can't wriggle as much. But doc still did send me over to Penn Hospital for a non stress test. Ahhh… but that meant that I might not be able to attend the Opening Keynote speech by Hillary Clinton and the Bon Jovi concert after.

So, i got strapped and hooked up to this monitor thingy that looked like the EEG machine. He didn't move for the first 20 mins. So they decided to keep me for another hour. In the next hour, bean moved, kicked and squirmed so much, that he passed the test. Phew. This meant that he's ok…

The whole procedure took about 2+ hours… and yes of course I missed the opening keynote speech and concert. But it was more because I couldn't grab a cab to North Philly. Taxi shift ends at 7pm and seems like every driver lives in south philly!

Atlantic City

Since I'm approaching 38 weeks, there is not exactly that many places we could go to…
Even so, we were brave enough to make the 1.5 hours bus journey to Atlantic City in New Jersey. Still, we had our fingers cross that the little bean wouldn't decide that he's had enough fun with his placenta friend.

Anyhow, we made it there and back… Though my legs didn't enjoy the journey at all. It was almost numb throughout the journey!

Weather wasn't great, but it was a nice experience walking along the boardwalk, and doing a bit of outlet shopping, and spending the last 20 mins in the casino winning back our bus tickets. We bought a $15 bus ticket, and got $25 in casino voucher. Not bad huh! We ended up with more than $40. So that's a free bus ride! The preggers lady got funny stares from people at the casino… Am I not supposed to step into one when I've got a big belly???

Would definitely bring the bean here next summer… not the casino.
The beach is just awesome.

Week 37 now!!

And the bean is considered full term!

Today, I made a trip to Penn medicine to see Dr Renbaum again...

Blood pressure in check
Weight still in check at 150lb (68.1 kg) - probably due to the Big Mac meal I gobbled down before rushing to the doctors.
Group B strep test negative!

All is good except for massive bleeding nose that happens twice daily over the last 2 weeks!

Diaphragm and aches

Not sure what this is exactly but in the last couple of days I have been getting pains in the diaphragm and my upper back and shoulders when I'm slouching. But it gets better when I'm sitting straight or standing up!! Docs have no idea too and think it's gas and acid... Google doesn't help either!

Week 36 visit to Penn Obgyn

Today I got to see Dr Allison Bloom. I really like her... Anyway, usual routine checks. Again I'm at 50th percentile.

Also had an ultrasound done (separately). But unlike the ultrasound I'm used to in Dubai, this is like disappointing in terms of image quality.

This was by far the best image of the face of the baby... How? Where? I couldn't tell!! See earlier post... At least I could see the bean's face clearly. The above image is just a mass of black and white bits... All fuzzy and no definition. Guess we have been totally spoilt by Dr Jozsa's cool images!

When you've set your baseline that high, it's tough taking a step back. Fortunately the bean is about to pop in 4 weeks or so. So not that many anticipating U/S.

Presents and more!

More presents from Aunty Rachel & Uncle Jon in Texas!!

Thanks a million! We are looking forward to using this in the coming months when the bean can sit up!

Stroller Up and Running!

We finally set up our stroller today!

Loving the forward and rear facing features!!

From the Bean's Grand Aunt and Uncle. Thanks :)

Bean's Movements

So... I felt the little bean as early as 16-18 weeks... and it's been little pokes. Then it graduated to kicks and punches.

Suddenly, one day at Week 30, I didn't feel a thing for 2 whole days. Then I started to panic, and was almost going to call the doctor, when he just decided to prod me again to put the phone down.

Last week, the bean was massively at it again... Swishing, swirlling, swimming... You name any movement, he's probably done it. We think it was his way of saying good bye to his Placenta Friend. They've been together for a good long 8 over months... Time to pack his bags and move out to the real world in a few more weeks.

Again, he's gone quiet over the last 2 days... Probably taking time off after his 1 full week of non-stop topsy turvy activity with his friend.

Belly at 35 weeks

Another 5 weeks to go!! Getting bigger each day...

Just look fat from the front view!!

Car Seats Dilemma...

Most new parents by this time would have already gotten everything sorted out - like the crib, car seat, stroller, baby essentials etc.

We're still waiting for the house to be done before we can even set up anything!! 5 weeks to go, and fingers crossed the bean does not decide to come earlier than expected! AND... we're having a really hard time getting a drivers license in PA. This means, we're not able to buy a car at all! And this means our research in getting the car seat we wanted goes out of the window.

After shopping around, we decided Maxi Cosi had one of the most comfortable seat (not that we have tried it out literally, but we think the baby would feel most comfy in that as compared to the Chiccos and the Gracos).

Our first choice was the Maxi Cosi Pria. This car seat can be used from infants till about 40lb. BUT... this means we'd need a car. It's hard renting a car and moving this big bulky car seat in and out of rental cars and carrying it around. (plus you look a little stupid doing that too)
Ohh... i just love the look of the Pria 70!!!

This means, our options are limited to an infant seat carrier - of which we short listed this to the Maxi Cosi Prezi and the Mico AP.

THE PREZI

It's got the rebounding foam (which absorbs impact) and the Air Protect Technology. Prezi could be carried around, and can be used to about 30lb. The seat itself weighs about 11lb. Imagine if the bean was 30lb, and seat 11lb... would any mom be able to carry a 41lb (that's a whooping 18.6kg) car seat on her arm? That's like lifting a luggage bag and carrying it everywhere you go without dragging the wheels. OK i admit, i'm not that strong. No way the bean's gonna be in this till 30lb.

Colours are limited though...
And is this really worth $289??

THE MICO AP

The AP (aka Air Protect) has the Air Protect Side Impact Technology which just means that during a car crash (touchwood), the impact will be minimized through the release of air. The Mico AP carries the baby till about 22lb. Which I guess is a good weight before needing to change seats.

A whole range of colours to choose from too!!! And they did recently release a white base one too!

Loving the variety of colors...
And it's going for $199 (which is $90 cheaper than the Prezi)

Decisions decisions....

Week 34.5 to see Dr Renbaum at Penn Obgyn

The last time, we waited about 40 minutes to see the doctor.

Today, the waiting time increased to a whooping 1 hour!! Well, if you read reviews, that's the same complains that everyone has. Thankfully, I have not much to do before and after the appointment. Ahh the joys of being a poor housewife.

I've realized that there's no point incoming early. Your waiting time is still gonna be the same!

Weight check this week : 148lb (67.1kg)
Must be due to the 8 hour non stop walking around Boston!! Half kilo weight gain in the last 2 weeks... even after feasting on those lobsters

The usual tummy measurement was still 50th percentile and normal baby's heartbeat 145bpm.
